ANSTO is pleased to announce that the ANSTO Australian Synchrotron User Meeting - UM2024 will be held in person at the Australian Synchrotron in Clayton, Victoria.

We look forward to welcoming you at this in-person meeting of the synchrotron user community; an opportunity to reunite with colleagues, converse with synchrotron scientists, mingle with leaders in the field, and make new friends over the science we love. This is a fabulous opportunity for established users and ECRs to build their networks and for new or prospective users to learn about everything the synchrotron and the user community has to offer. As always, the User Meeting provides the opportunity to celebrate those that have made significant contributes to the community as well as those rising stars through the coveted Lifetime Award, ECR Award and Stephen Wilkins Thesis Medal.

User Meeting 2024 Topics will include:     Manufacturing, Engineering & Industry   -   Advanced Materials   -   Biological Systems & Life Science   -   Chemistry, Crystallography & Biologics   -   Soft Matter, Foods & Nanomedicines   -   Solid-State Physics   -   Instruments & Techniques   -   Earth, Environment & Cultural Heritage

Giuliana and Christian

Plenary speakers: Giuliana Tromba and Christian Dullin

Giuliana Tromba - Giuliana Tromba has more than 30 years of experience in the use of synchrotron radiation for medical and biological imaging. Since 1997 she has been in charge of the X-ray imaging beamline SYRMEP at Elettra and Radiation Protection officer for the Elettra laboratory. She promoted the use of phase-contrast imaging for medical radiology, designed and participated in the first clinical trial of synchrotron X-ray mammography. She is currently involved in several scientific activities, the most recent of which is the lung CT project, which aims to evaluate the potential of phase-contrast technology for low-dose tomography studies in patients.

Christian Dullin - Christian studied technical physics at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and has been in charge of the small animal imaging facility at the University Medical Center Göttingen (Germany) since 2004. He is an expert in x-ray and optical imaging as well as in image processing and software development. Christian teaches imaging technologies, image processing and machine learning. Christian is guest scientist at the Max-Planck-Institute for Multidisciplinary Sciences in Göttingen, principle investigator in the German Lung Research Center – Heidelberg and external advisor of the Italian synchrotron “Elettra”.  His research focuses on correlative virtual histology, lung imaging and applying imaging techniques in fundamental research in biology and anthropology.
