Secondary tours
Facilitated by the Swinburne University of Technology, our school tours are designed to meet syllabus outcomes and enhance students’ understanding of nuclear science and technology.
Programs include VCE laboratory sessions and school tours of the Australian Synchrotron.
Tours can be organised for a maximum of 24 students.

VCE laboratory sessions
Specialised practical ANSTO VCE Lab Sessions are available for Year 11 and 12 VCE students with guided tours of the Australian Synchrotron.
These sessions are the only hands-on experience in Australia that allow students to comprehensively explore key syllabus concepts such as:
- interaction of light and energy,
- nuclear physics, and
- radioactivity.
Sessions are held in ANSTO’s interactive learning centre, utilising equipment not normally found in schools. Sessions include a tour of the Synchrotron where students will obtain a deep understanding of how research using synchrotron and nuclear techniques delivers a wide range of benefits.
Year 9 and 10 Lab Session and Tour: Light It Up!
Bookings are available in Terms 2 and 4 2022
Session duration: 2.5 hours(morning or afternoon)
Start time: 9.30 am – 2 pm (or as arranged with individual schools)

Session and booking details
$275 plus GST for groups up to 13 students. $20 plus GST per student for groups over 13 students.
Maximum of 28 students per session.
For groups less than 13 students we will try to combine your class with another group to reduce the per student costs (unless otherwise requested).

$400 plus GST for groups of up to 13 students. $30 plus GST per student for groups over 13 students.
Maximum of 24 students per session.

School tours of the Australian Synchrotron
Tours of the Australian Synchrotron are available for school groups during the school term.
When: Monday to Friday (subject to availability and only during the Victorian school terms)
Start time: 9.30 am – 11 am (or as arranged with individual schools)
Tour and booking details
$225 plus GST for groups up to 14 students. $15 plus GST per student for groups over 14 students.
Maximum of 24 students per session.
For groups less than 15 we will try to combine your class with another group to reduce the per student costs (unless otherwise requested).
