ANSTO’s social media channels should be safe and welcoming spaces. We encourage our social media followers to interact with ANSTO as well as each other.
To support a healthy, safe, respectful and inclusive community for everyone, ANSTO maintains the following terms of engagement for its social media channels, to guide you when interacting across our various online platforms.
ANSTO’s social media terms of engagement are in addition to any relevant policy, terms of use or conditions imposed by the social media platform (i.e. Facebook, X, LinkedIn, Instagram, BlueSky and YouTube).
As Australia's nuclear science and technology organisation, ANSTO provides impartial scientific information, data and reporting as requested by the government, relevant agencies and organisation.
ANSTO does not comment on government or opposition policies on social media.
ANSTO’s terms of engagement
When communicating with ANSTO’s official social media accounts or with others on our pages, you may express your views, comments, ideas, insights, and criticisms.
However, you should show courtesy and respect and must not abuse others, expose others to offensive or inappropriate content, or use the platform for any unlawful purpose.
When interacting with ANSTO’s content and community, you must not:
Harass, abuse or insult others
Make defamatory, false or misleading comment(s)
Use obscene, racist, insulting, sexist or otherwise discriminatory or offensive language
Promote personal or commercial interests
Post personal information about yourself or others such as private phone numbers or addresses
Violate any laws or regulations, including the intellectual property rights of others
Share spam, multiple versions of the same comment or excessive commentary on a particular issue.
Post off-topic comments.
In the interest of ensuring our community can participate in a safe and respectful environment, ANSTO maintains the right to administrate its social media channels, including to hide and/or delete posts or comments that breach these terms of engagement. In any instance where ongoing departure from or significant breach of these terms of engagement, ANSTO reserves the right to block you from our social channels.
It should also be noted that ANSTO will delete comments in languages other than English and that ANSTO is not responsible for the accuracy of translation by any 3rd party.
Privacy statement
Personal information collected by ANSTO is treated as confidential and is protected by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). ANSTO collects information posted to its social media channels for the purpose of administration, addressing comments or engagements made via these platforms and for evaluating the effectiveness of ANSTO’s communications.
