Beamline Scientist SAXS/WAXS

Role at ANSTO

Dr Pablo Mota-Santiago is a beamline scientist at the SAXS/WAXS beamline at the Australian Synchrotron. He provides with technical and scientific support to visiting research groups, collaborates with users in the development of dedicated and specialised sample environments, and works in the development of new data processing solutions.

His expertise is in the study of the interaction of heavy-ions (kinetic energy ≥ 1 MeV/a.m.u) with matter, characterisation of the microstructure and mechanical testing of polymers and composite materials using SAXS and WAXS. Before joining the SAXS/WAXS beamline, Pablo held a post-doctoral position at the CoSAXS beamline at MAX IV, providing user support, supporting the development of large data processing tools, and commissioned a biaxial loading tester to study the multiscale deformation of polymers and composite materials. Prior to joining MAX IV, he also completed a post-doctoral position at the SAXS/WAXS beamline at the Australian Synchrotron where he developed a serial scan protocol for carbon fibres.

He is also interested in industry engagement projects where he has been successful in multiple projects with companies such as Boeing, TetraPak and AstraZeneca.

Expertise

Small- and wide-angle X-ray scattering, mechanical testing, nuclear analytical techniques, electron microscopy, thin film deposition and characterisation, python, composite materials.
