Role at ANSTO 

Responsible for the support of the accelerator systems at the Australian Synchrotron and ongoing scientific research and development in accelerator physics and diagnostic techniques. I have been involved in the development of: alternative operational modes, real-time (Linux PREEMPT_RT and FPGA based) fast orbit feedback systems, new diagnostic techniques, insertion device compensation methods and scripts, Matlab based accelerator control and simulation tools.

More recently I am developing the Pulsed Energetic Electrons for Research (PEER) end station that uses 100 MeV electrons from the Australian Synchrotron’s Linac during machine periods. Applications include: VHEE FLASH Radiotherapy and Dosimetry studies and detector characterisation.

Accelerator physics, Synchrotron radiation physics, Insertion Devices, Electron beam diagnostics, “real-time” position feedback systems, accelerator design and optimisation.

Particle Simulation tools: Accelerator Toolbox, MADx and Elegant
Software and programming: Matlab & Simulink, FEMM (2D magnetics), EPICS, Python, C/C++, Matlab Middle Layer for Accelerator control.
