Accelerator Engineering Scientist

Role at ANSTO

Dr. Ryan Drury is an early career researcher with the Centre for Accelerator Science of ANSTO. Dr. Drury specialises in the development, evaluation, and optimisation of multi-disciplinary systems. He has integrated processes from mechanical, electrical, software, pneumatic, and chemical engineering to fabricate novel devices for unique environments. He is as capable in a chemistry lab as he is in soldering electronics, assembling mechanical devices, and writing code for data acquisition and analysis.

Ryan’s research expertise is in the field of ion beam irradiations, predominantly the effects of space radiation on semiconductor devices, solar panels, and novel materials. His role as an accelerator engineering scientist involves operating the ANTARES 10 MV and the SIRIUS 6 MV particle accelerators, as well as being responsible for improving and expanding the capabilities of the microprobe end-stations.

Aside from accelerator operations, he also contributes to the AINSE programs as a WISE mentor and a Winter School committee member. Ryan is also an active participant of the LGBTQIA+ Allies group at ANSTO and has been involved in the organisation of numerous activities and events over the years.

Expertise

Ion irradiation, ion microprobes, space radiation, ion beam induced effects in semiconductor devices and materials, chemical decapsulation, systems engineering.
