Role at ANSTO
Dr Lars Thomsen is a senior scientist at the Soft X-Ray (SXR) beamline at the Australian Synchrotron. Lars has worked at the SXR beamline since 2008 and has gained a noteworthy expertise in surface science techniques such as synchrotron-based spectroscopy. He also has a significant knowledge of vacuum instrumentation and is, along with his beamline colleagues, responsible for training on the beamline as well as management of research projects of visiting scientists.
Lars is an active researcher within the organic electronics community. He is a national expert in the technique of Near Edge X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy and uses the technique to investigate the structure and molecular order within organic electronic thin films in order to relate this to device performance. He has a particular interest in developing how NEXAFS is collected at the SXR beamline to enhance the user experience.
