Role at ANSTO
Dr. Dhriti Bhattacharyya is a senior scientist working in the Nuclear Fuel Cycle Research theme. He is the Research Lead on “Radiation effects in structural materials”, where his main focus is to understand the microstructural and mechanical property changes in metallic materials due to neutron and ion irradiation.
Expertise
He has extensive experience in transmission and scanning electron microscopy (TEM and SEM), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), analytical TEM, and other related characterization techniques, which are used in obtaining insights into the effects of radiation on matter. Some of the projects he is overseeing currently include:
- Correlation between neutron and ion irradiation through microstructural characterization
- Understanding the effect of irradiation/ geometry on mechanical properties of materials
- Effect of ion irradiation on microstructure and mechanical properties of structural materials relevant to Gen 4 reactors
- Radiation damage effects in plasma-facing materials for ITER Project
Background
B.Tech. in Metallurgical Engineering, IIT-BHU, India, 1995
Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering, The Ohio State University, USA, 2004
Dr. Bhattacharyya has more than 50 peer reviewed publications in international journals, and delivered numerous keynote and invited talks at international conferences. he was Guest editor: JOM special issue – Advanced characterization and testing of irradiated materials and a Guest editor: Metals special issue – Radiation effects in metals.
