Today we successfully commissioned a new closed-cycle refrigerator "outsert" for our dilution-refrigerator insert, on our WOMBAT high-intensity powder diffractometer. It is designed to fit with the He-3 polarisation analyser, and we were able to reach 35mK, measured on the sample.
This new cryostat can be used in stand-alone mode, as a 1.5K cryostat on all instruments (bar PLATYPUS); in conjunction with the dilution insert and with the PASTIS coils.
As a consequence, are ready now to perform the first experiments with polarised neutrons at temperatures in the mK range.
