ANSTO has welcomed Michael Quigley AM as the new ANSTO Board Chair, in a formal announcement shared by Minister for Industry and Science, Hon Ed Husic MP.
Mr Quigley’s experience spans over 50 years in telecommunications in the public and private sectors, including serving as the founding Chief Executive Officer of the NBN Co.
Joining global telecommunications firm Alcatel as a cadet electrical engineer in 1971, Mr Quigley held a number of senior positions until 2007, including President and Chief Operating Officer.
Mr Quigley graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Engineering (Hons),and has served as an Adjunct Professor in the School of Computing and Communications at the University of Technology Sydney.
Amongst his distinguished achievements, Mr Quigley has extensive board experience in medical research, governance, and capital management, including serving as director of the Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute. He also co-authored a book in 2017 with current Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers.
In 2022, Mr Quigley was appointed Member of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for significant service to the telecommunications sector, and to education.
ANSTO CEO Shaun Jenkinson said he was pleased to welcome Mr Quigley as Chair and the wealth of experience and leadership he will bring to Australia’s largest nuclear organisation.
“Mr Quigley’s expansive financial and governance skills and strong partnerships will deliver invaluable contributions to the Board, and ensure ANSTO continues to deliver excellence in nuclear science and research for the benefit of all Australians,” Mr Jenkinson said.
“ANSTO is a world leader in many fields of nuclear science and technology, and importantly for Australia, in the production of lifesaving nuclear medicines. We are delighted to have Mr Quigley at the helm of the Board as we turn our focus across a number of core priorities, including the vital future replacement of ANSTO’s nuclear medicine facility.”
Mr Jenkinson also thanked The Hon Dr Annabelle Bennett AO SC following her departure as Chair in March 2024.
“Dr Bennett has brought extensive and diverse experience to the ANSTO Board, and we extend our sincere thanks for her strong contributions and service during this time,” Mr Jenkinson said.
