ANSTO to host 12th International Conference on Hot Isostatic Pressing

The International HIP Committee (IHC) have announced Sydney, Australia as the location for the 12th International Conference on Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP), taking place from 5-8 December 2017. The conference which will be hosted by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), will explore emerging trends, developments and innovations in the field of HIP.

Established globally as a key manufacturing process, HIP is used for the production of components in many industries including aerospace, oil and gas, power generation and medical. HIP processing subjects a component to high temperature and isostatic gas pressure in a high pressure containment vessel to reduce the porosity and increase the density of the material.

At ANSTO, HIP is a key process for the innovative Synroc technology, a safe secure matrix for the immobilisation and disposal of radioactive waste.

The 2017 conference follows the successful 11th conference, HIP '14, held in Stockholm, Sweden in June 2014 attended by HIP specialists and new users interested in the applications and material performance benefits offered by this technology.

ANSTO's Gerry Triani, Technical Director of the Synroc group and Stephen Marshl, IHC Chairman will co-chair the HIP ‘17 conference. They are working closely the local organising committee, with past conference organisers, and IHC members to ensure another successful event.

Conference organisers will soon be calling for abstracts and announcing further details about the venue and conference programme. If you would like to register your interest in this event, please email HIP2017@ansto.gov.au.
