In response to a small number of enquiries about ANSTO’s recent role in air quality monitoring, a spokesperson for the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO) said:
“ANSTO is home of some of Australia’s best environmental scientists, and has decades of experience in studying air quality and different types of air particle pollutants,” said the spokesperson.
“Our extensive scientific expertise in this area includes identifying the chemical composition of particulate air pollution and its sources, and this is detailed on our website.*
“From time to time, ANSTO is contracted to provide independent, expert air quality monitoring services, and we do this for a variety of industries and government agencies.
“While ANSTO cannot release results prepared on a commercial basis, it is on the public record that we recently undertook testing at the BlueScope Steel site. We provided the independent results to BlueScope Steel, and it is on the record that they successfully obtained Environment Protection Agency permission to restart their operations."
“People wanting more information can contact either BlueScope Steel or the NSW Environment Protection Agency."
