The 5th annual ANSTO Awards in Nuclear Science and Technology 2019 were held on Friday 22 November at the University of Wollongong Innovation Campus as a celebration and recognition of achievement and partnerships.
Warmly welcoming about 100 invited guests including members of the Collins family, CEO Dr Adi Paterson congratulated all the nominees.
“These awards acknowledged singular achievement in an individual or team, innovation, science communication, a sustained contribution, and a new award this year that recognised a commitment to partnerships with impact,” said Dr Paterson.
All nominees are highlighted in a short video screened at the event, which was emceed by Suzanne Hollins.

The highly regarded Award for Sustained Contribution was presented this year to dual winners, Bob Ring and Peter Holden. Both have had long, accomplished careers at ANSTO.
Director of Minerals Bob Ring has made a lifelong contribution to ANSTO in a career that began in 1970. Adi highlighted his enormous contribution to Minerals, which made Minerals into the self-sustaining, successful consultancy services business it is today.
His commitment to clients is embodied in his No 1 Rule, “Read the proposal and what we have promised to deliver. Rule No 2 is to refer to Rule No 1.”
Bob thanked the Minerals team for their technical ability and support for his leadership and the business.
The Sustained Contribution award was jointly awarded to Prof Peter Holden, Acting Head of Health and former Director of the National Deuteration Facility.
Dr Paterson praised Peter for his diverse contribution over many areas, and the establishment of the National Deuteration Facility as his greatest achievement, which today is known globally for excellence.
Peter is known for his strategic thinking, commitment to scientific excellence, and leadership.
Peter graciously thanked the team at the facility and others at ANSTO he has worked with over the years., emphasising the importance of respecting and challenging team members
Two recipients were award winners for the second time.
Last year the NCEPT team shared the Innovation award, while Helen brand had previously been a joint winner for the Early to Mid-Career Research.
