The OPAL Research Reactor has now passed the important milestone of having produced 500 refereed research articles in the scientific literature. In addition, the Echidna high-resolution powder diffractometer, produced 50 papers in a single calendar year for the first time in 2014.
This is comparable with productivity at other leading neutron powder diffractometers, for instance at the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, France or the NIST Centre for Neutron Research in the USA.
Echidna produced OPAL's first research paper back in 2007 and output continues to rise on all of OPAL's neutron beam instruments. All but one of the original instruments exceeded (or equalled) the 2013 output in 2014, in some cases by a very wide margin.
