Role at ANSTO
Dr Alice Klapproth is an instrument scientist for the high-resolution backscattering spectrometer, Emu. She supports the user program on Emu and works with visiting scientists. Together with the technical teams at the Australian Centre for Neutron Scattering, she develops new capabilities and is co-responsible for expanding the functions of the instrument.
Her interest lies in the study of confined molecules, relaxation processes in polymers and liquid lipids as well as protein dynamics. Much of this work is based on a desire to understand the strength and nature of molecular exchange interactions and the relationship between structure and dynamics. Prior to joining ANSTO, Alice completed postdoctoral positions in Germany and Australia where she investigated the crystal structure and physical-chemical properties of gas clathrate hydrates.
When Alice is not working on Emu, she continues her research on gas clathrate hydrates using not only neutron spectroscopy but also neutron powder diffraction at high gas pressure and cryogenic temperatures.
